A new cost is on the horizon for the thousands of cross-border workers who cross the Belgian border: a mandatory digital vignette to drive on Belgian roads.
Key points
- From 1 May 2027, a digital road vignette will be mandatory on Belgian regional roads and motorways.
- It will be shared by Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels, and also applies to foreign-registered vehicles.
- It can be bought online from 1 March 2027.
- The annual price ranges from €90 to €125 depending on the vehicle’s emission standard.
What changes on 1 May 2027
From 1 May 2027, drivers of certain vehicles will need a digital road vignette to use regional roads and motorways.
This new vignette will be shared by Wallonia, Flanders and Brussels. The measure applies to vehicles registered in Belgium and abroad alike.
One vignette for all 3 regions
- Vignettes launched at the same time in all 3 regions
- A single, fully digital registration giving access to all regional road networks
- No sticker on your windscreen: the vignette is linked directly to your number plate
- The vignette can be bought online from 1 March 2027.
The aim? To make every road user, including foreign drivers, contribute fairly to the upkeep of the roads they use.
Who is affected?
The following vehicles registered in Belgium or abroad:
- cars;
- dual-purpose vehicles;
- vans under 3.5 tonnes.
How much does it cost?
The price depends on the period chosen and the vehicle’s emission standard. The less your car pollutes, the lower the price.
| Period | Euro 4 and above | Euro 0 to 3 | Zero-emission vehicle |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 year | €100 | €125 | €90 |
| 24 hours | €9 | €11.25 | €8.10 |
| 10 days | €12 | €15 | €10.80 |
| 1 month | €19 | €23.75 | €17.10 |
| 2 months | €30 | €37.50 | €27 |
Exemption for certain vehicles: vehicles used for public-interest missions and certain medical vehicles, as well as people with disabilities, under the conditions set out in the regulations.
The following vehicles do not need this vignette: tractors, motorcycles and coaches.
Please note: each vignette is linked to your number plate. Cameras can therefore check your plate to see whether you have one. You may be fined if you do not.
