Major discussions are currently underway concerning the calculation of unemployment compensation for cross-border workers for 2025. At this stage, the social partners are working on a reform aimed at introducing a specific coefficient for calculating unemployment rights. This new method of calculation could be applied from1 January 2025.
It is important to stress that no final decision has yet been taken. These discussions are part of negotiations within Unédic, the body responsible for unemployment insurance in France. Once an agreement has been reached between the social partners, it will have to be put to the vote as part of the usual legislative process.
At present, several questions remain unanswered: the precise date of implementation and the application of the reform. We still don’t know whether it will apply only to newly unemployed cross-border commuters or also to jobseekers who are already registered.
There is no need to contact us to obtain information on this subject, because, like cross-border commuters, we are waiting. We will be keeping a close eye on the matter and will communicate any official developments as soon as they become known.
