With the arrival of the warmer days, the payment of the holiday allowance is approaching. Remember to provide your bank account number to the ONVA so that you can receive your payment!
What is the holiday allowance?
The Belgian system distinguishes between two types of holiday allowance:
- The single holiday allowance corresponds to the continuation of salary payment during vacation days. It is paid when the employee takes their leave.
- The double holiday allowance corresponds to the remuneration for vacation days, calculated on the basis of the wages earned during the previous year. It is an additional sum of money, paid in the form of a bonus, which you receive in connection with your holidays.
This mechanism is designed to ensure that every worker has the financial means necessary to enjoy their vacation while guaranteeing the right to paid leave, supervised by the ONVA.
When is it paid?
The holiday allowance is paid once a year between May 2 and June 30 of the holiday year. The payment date varies depending on your sector of activity.
Who pays it?
The payment is not automatic. It is made by the National Office for Annual Holidays (ONVA), but only if you have provided your bank account details.
