Working in Germany, studying in Belgium, doing an internship in Luxembourg\u2026 Apprenticeship can be a true gateway to international experience\u2014for both young people and businesses. But is cross-border apprenticeship really possible? Let\u2019s get the facts straight! \ud83d\udcc3<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A cross-border apprenticeship allows apprentices to complete part of their training in a country neighboring France. Setting up such an arrangement depends on bilateral agreements<\/strong> between France and the partner country. As of now, a formal agreement exists only with Germany<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regions covered:<\/strong> Baden-W\u00fcrttemberg, Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland
Training center location:<\/strong> Must be in mainland France (not necessarily limited to Lorraine anymore).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cross-border apprenticeship in Belgium<\/strong><\/strong><\/p><\/path><\/svg><\/div>

For apprenticeships involving French training centers<\/strong>, no official agreement<\/strong> exists between France and Belgium. This means a French apprentice cannot do their practical training in Belgium<\/strong> under the French apprenticeship status, and the apprenticeship would not be officially recognized<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In rare cases, a Belgian company may agree to cover the training costs, without financial support from the French government or the training organization. In this case, the Belgian immersion or integration contract<\/strong> may apply. It must still be approved by the French training center in order for the diploma to be validated in France.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Cross-border apprenticeship in Luxembourg<\/strong><\/strong><\/p><\/path><\/svg><\/div>

If the targeted diploma is below baccalaur\u00e9at level<\/strong>, cross-border apprenticeship between France and Luxembourg is possible<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This type of apprenticeship requires a bilateral agreement<\/strong> between the French training center and Luxembourgish authorities<\/strong>. It is generally limited to professions listed in this regulation:

Once a Luxembourg-based training company is found, the apprentice must obtain authorization from the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth in Luxembourg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udca1 Note: The French training center cannot receive French funding<\/strong> (e.g. apprenticeship tax) for a cross-border apprenticeship. However, Luxembourg\u2019s Ministry of Education<\/strong> may offer financial support. A formal request must be made by the training center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For post-bac training<\/strong>, cross-border apprenticeships are also possible<\/strong>, but not yet regulated<\/strong> in Luxembourg. When they happen, they are managed through private arrangements between the training center and the company. No official agreement<\/strong> currently exists between France and Luxembourg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
