In France, Decree No. 2025-482 of 27 May 2025<\/strong>, applicable since 1 July 2025<\/strong>, provides for specific obligations during periods of extreme heat, depending on the M\u00e9t\u00e9o-France heat warning levels<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Assessing heat-related risks<\/p><\/path><\/svg><\/div>

Employers must identify situations in which workers are exposed to high temperatures and implement appropriate preventive measures. This assessment takes into account, in particular:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • the nature of the tasks<\/strong> performed;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the intensity of the physical effort<\/strong> required;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • weather conditions and the working environment;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • the protective equipment or clothing worn;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • individual characteristics of workers, such as age<\/strong> or certain medical conditions<\/strong> that may increase their vulnerability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    In certain particularly exposed sectors, specific assessment methods may be used to determine the level of risk.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

    What measures can be implemented?<\/p><\/path><\/svg><\/div>

    The measures adopted must be adapted to the risks identified and should, wherever possible, prioritise collective protective measures<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • improve ventilation<\/strong> or air circulation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • reduce heat sources wherever possible;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • provide shaded or cooled areas<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • protect workers from equipment generating high levels of heat;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • provide air-conditioned vehicles<\/strong> where required by the activity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • use mechanical aids to reduce physical exertion;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • adapt workstations or encourage remote working<\/strong> where compatible with the activity;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • monitor the temperature of working premises<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      \ud83d\uddd3 Organisational measures<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

      • adjust working hours<\/strong> to avoid the hottest periods of the day;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • alternate periods of work and rest;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • schedule the most physically demanding tasks early in the morning<\/strong> or at the end of the day;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • increase the frequency of breaks<\/strong> in a cool or shaded area;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • provide a sufficient quantity of free drinking water<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

        \ud83d\udca1 Breaks and hydration:<\/strong> Prevention organisations recommend drinking small amounts of water regularly<\/strong> to reduce the risk of dehydration and, where possible, taking breaks in well-ventilated or cooled areas<\/strong>.<\/p><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

        Adapting work clothing<\/p><\/path><\/svg><\/div>

        When safety requirements allow, employers may relax dress codes to allow workers to wear lighter, more breathable clothing<\/strong>.
